Maligned, discredited, unappreciated. Despite never really holding down a first-team position at Old Trafford after his stunning break through in the 2002/03 campaign, John O’Shea never moaned. Every time he was called upon he gave his all in a wide-range of positions and leaves us with some of the fondest memories we have of Manchester United; his chip against Arsenal, his 93rd minute smash and grab winner at Liverpool, a goal in a European Cup Semi-final and – of course, nutmegging Luis Figo.
While never the most gifted of players, he has served the club well and collected the kind of trophies 99% of footballers can only dream of. Best of luck with Brucie.
