Since last time…
Phil Jones has been confirmed as a Manchester United player. There’s so far been no indication as to what position he will play or what squad number he will wear, but the Preston-born nineteen-year-old has completed his move from Blackburn for approximately £16m – despite a last minute £22m hijack bid from Liverpool.
Ashley Young is all but a Manchester United player with the deal is expected to be announced when the attacking-midfielder returns from holiday in a week’s time. It’s being reported that Young will be paid £130,000 a week upon the completion of his move to Old Trafford from Aston Villa.
French media sources are claiming that United have had a €10m offer for Lens’ teenage defender, Rafael Varane accepted. The centre-back is a long-term United target and if a deal is sealed, it’s expected that he will remain at Lens on a twelve-month loan deal.
Other players linked with the club are Udinese’s Chilean winger, Alexis Sanchez. Barcelona and Manchester City are also both interested in Sanchez and the player supposedly has his heart set on signing for the Catalan giants. Chelsea have had a £22m bid for perennial United target, Tottenham’s Luka Modric rejected. Whether or not this will force Sir Alex Ferguson’s hand into his pocket to bring the creative-midfielder to Old Trafford remains to be seen, but a bidding-war with Chelsea is something United would rather avoid.
