Busby Babes in colour part two

This picture is from the 1957 FA Cup Final against Aston Villa. Just six minutes into the game Aston Villa’s Peter McParland dived into United goalkeeper Ray Wood when Wood was in possession of the ball. Wood was knocked unconscious and broke a cheekbone ans as there were no substitutes had to be replaced by centre-half Jackie Blanchflower. The assault went unpunished and McParland went on to score both Villa’s goals in a 2-1 victory.
