On this day…

Manchester United 1-0 Arsenal
Old Trafford, March 20th 1996

After his stoppage-time equaliser against QPR 4 days earlier, Eric Cantona once more scored United’s only goal in a priceless victory that kept The Reds in the title race.
Cantona’s goal came in the 66th minute of play and is frequently included in his greatest ever goals compilations. After a David Seaman clearance, Eric took the ball down on his chest 25 yards from goal before unleashing an unstoppable right-footed strike that went in via the crossbar.
The result was part of a series of one goal United victories and the Arsenal game was match number three of six consecutive games where Cantona was on the scoresheet – four of which ended in 1-0 victories.
You know the rest, United went on to overturn Newcastle’s 12-point lead to win the League and Eric The King scored an 86th minute winner against Liverpool in the FA Cup Final that meant United were the first team to achieve the “double, double”.
United’s line-up that night
1. Schmeichel; 20. G. Neville, 12. May, 4. Bruce, 23. P. Neville; 5. Sharpe, 16. Keane, 19. Butt, 11. Giggs; 7. Cantona, 17. Cole. Substitute: 22. Scholes.
